Life is {10 weeks}

I realize I didn't post last week, but with traveling for Thanksgiving and my birthday (25 again), I completely forgot!  Nothing exciting happens in week 9 anyway ;).
I went today for my first pregnancy appointment with my regular OB.  It was a great appointment, despite the fact that I had to have a pap and exam and they couldn't find the heartbeat on the doppler......that was scary, let me tell ya!

Because they couldn't find the heartbeat on the doppler, I got to have a surprise ultrasound.  The tech was able to find the littler critter right away, with a beautiful, beating heart.  No joke: the kid was dancing around and waving at me as if to say, "hey ma!  I'm sorry I scared you!  I'm in here, just growing and chillin'!".  I was so relieved to see that on the screen.  Its heart rate was around 163; a pretty mellow dude.  It's amazing how much s/he's grown in just two weeks!
Our next scan will be in two weeks (12 weeks).  It's called a Nuchal Translucency Screening (or NT Scan).  While there is nothing that would cause us to terminate the pregnancy, this scan can detect certain abnormalities like Down Syndrome and Trisomy 18.  We don't (and neither does my OB) think we are at risk for any of this, but it will either give piece of mind or a plan on how to prepare should something be abnormal.  PLUS, it's another ultrasound and it's completely non-evasive :).

Here is my 10 week bump (a.k.a. complete BLOAT):

I feel completely gross!  I know it's probably bloat, but I don't know how much longer I'll be able to hide it!  Good thing we're telling people in less than 2 weeks!

Baby size:  According to babycenter.com, Baby F  is about the size of a kumquat.  If you're like me, you have no clue what the heck a "kumquat" is.  Allow me to enlighten you: It's a small fruit.  S/he's already a little over an inch from crown to bottom and weighs less than a quarter of an ounce.  S/he has now completed the most critical portion of development :).
Its tissues and organs are rapidly growing and it has tiny nails forming on its fingers, which are no longer webbed.  The baby is swallowing fluid and kicking (and waving) up a storm.  It has most of its organs and its limbs can now bend!  How amazing :).

How far along: 10 weeks

Total weight gain: I'm not sure how much I've gained, but the number wasn't as high as I expected it on the scale!  My doctor said she wanted me to gain between 30-45 lbs (which would put me over 200 - YIKES).  I am tall though, so hopefully I can maintain weight and only gain about 35lbs....yeah right.

Sleep: The dreams are still out of control crazy, but I've been getting about 8-10 good hours of sleep a night, minus about 3 minutes I spend peeing about 3 times a night.

Maternity Clothes: Loving elastic pants!

Food cravings : None

Food aversions: I don't, luckily, have any aversions.

Symptoms:  I am still very fatigued, but if I get a good night's sleep, that usually helps.  My doctor said I should feel a lot more energy around 14 weeks!  Other than that, the nausea and everything else has faded!  I'm crossing my fingers that it stays away.

Exercise:  I haven't had any energy to even contemplate it, but my Dr. did say that she's fine with me starting back!  I'll probably take it easy with the elliptical and stationary bike.  I'm always short of breath right now, so I just need to be careful not to over-exert myself.  I need to do something though because I feel so much better if I work out!

Movement: No way - too early!

Gender: TEAM GREEN!

Best moment of the week:  Seeing the baby on the screen and seeing its little heart pitter-patter.  Although she warned me it might be too early, not hearing the heartbeat on the doppler today was VERY scary.  I heard once that you worry from the moment you get pregnant and continue to worry about the kid for the rest of your life.  I now can totally relate.  This little critter is already causing me trouble!  S/he seems to be stubborn, which is pretty expected considering who its parents are.

What I'm looking forward to:  We will get to see the baby again in a little over two weeks and that's exciting!  I'm also looking forward to my annual "Ugly Christmas Sweater Party" next weekend!  It's always so fun!  We're telling some friends that night and then the rest of the "world" the following week!
