I was going to take a picture today, but it didn't quite work out!
Today I am 7 weeks pregnant. We had our first ultrasound yesterday and it was the most amazing experience ever!
We went back to the room and the ultrasound tech said, "now don't get nervous if I don't say something right away; I need to find what I'm looking for, and then I'll talk". About 10 seconds later, she said: "6 weeks, 5 days with a perfect heartbeat", and then turned the screen toward us. I was so relieved, I immediately started crying! I forgot to even look at the screen! Les, on the other hand, had the biggest grin on his face and never took his eyes off of the screen. Then, the tech turned up the volume loudly so that we could hear the perfect heartbeat (134bpm). It was so surreal. There is a living, breathing, thriving thing growing inside me. It's really happening.
Then, we met with my doctor. He said everything looked perfect and just where it needed to be. We go back next week (when I'm 8 weeks) for another ultrasound to make sure everything is progressing as it should....which means we get to see the baby again!
Baby size: Baby F is about the size of a blueberry (picturing Veruca Salt on Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory). Its hands and feet are emerging from its developing arms and legs, although they probably look more like paddles at this point! The baby has doubled in size since last week, but is still technically considered an embryo because of a small tail which is an extension of the tail bone. The baby's brain is growing (both hemispheres) and its liver is churning out red blood cells until bone marrow forms and takes over this role. S/he even has an appendix and a pancreas!
How far along: 7 weeks
Total weight gain: No clue, but the Dr. said don't worry about that at this point.
Sleep: Sleep is ok. I usually wake up around 5am to go to the bathroom, and aside from the CRAZY dreams, I've been sleeping ok!
Maternity Clothes: Still super bloated, but not in maternity clothing yet!
Food cravings : None
Food aversions: I haven't really been hungry at all, so I haven't been having aversions, I'm just not hungry in the slightest bit.
Symptoms: Other than exhaustion, nothing really. For that - I am super thankful!
Exercise: Hah! Yeah right! Actually, the doctor said to hold off until second trimester, to which I completely agreed and shall comply ;)
Movement: No way - too early!
Gender: TEAM GREEN!
Best moment of the week: Seeing the baby on the screen and hearing the heartbeat. It made it real. I had heard how amazing seeing the baby for the first time was from my friends and family, but I never could have fathomed how amazing it was. I don't know how somebody can't believe in a higher power after seeing something like that. Truly a miracle.
