1/1/11

Life is {a New Year}

Every year, on January 1, I vow to make changes.  I pledge to lose weight.  To be a nicer person. To cut out soft drinks.  While those are all fine resolutions, I always end up giving up on them (all except being a nicer person) because let's face it - what kind of life is a life devoid of Diet Coke?

This year, it's different.  I will make changes because I need to make changes.  2011 has the potential to be one of the greatest years of my life and I want to do all that I can to make sure it is.  I plan to use this blog to chronicle my journey through 2011 as I strive to reach my goals.

Now, if you really know me, you're probably thinking: "Stacey, this is like the 5th blog you've started...I give it a week".  Up until now, I would have agreed with you.  But I need this.  One of my good friends, Andrea (who is an amazing HR clinician with wonderful career counseling skills) once told me that I needed to make a vision board.  She explained a vision board as something where you cut out pictures or words that symbolize what goals you want to complete or successes you want to obtain.  You glue/tape those pictures to a poster and hang it somewhere where you see it on a daily basis.  Well, my friends, because I am on a computer daily and because words mean as much to me as pictures do, this is my "vision board".

Here are my goals:
**run a 1/2 marathon**
I plan on running the Kentucky Derby 1/2 Marathon on April 30, 2011.
**be creative**
I love being crafty and creative, I just need to do more of it :).
**volunteer more**
Proverbs 11:24, "One gives freely, yet grows all the richer; another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want."
**be healthier**
My husband likes to eat and I don't like to cook two meals.  Therefore, I am a fat-ass.
**pro-create**
We would love to have a spawn sometime this year.
**be more frugal**
We need to do a better job of saving money so that we can achieve our long-term goals.
**apply for doctoral studies**
I want to teach and will need a doctorate to do that.  So, I will be applying to Doctoral Studies at the University where I work and will hopefully be accepted to the Fall 2011 cohort.
Now that I'm not forced to read school books, I love to read.
**make a difference**
"Be the change you want to see".

I might add goals as I go along, but I think that's a pretty good start!

So, while I won't be giving up Diet Coke just yet, I will strive to be a better, more healthy, more loving, more giving person.  You are welcome to join me on my journey!  I'll need all the support I can get!

Much love and best wishes for a happy, healthy new year.
