Well, really a half marathon, but the word marathon appears nonetheless.
I am officially running in the KY Derby MiniMarathon on April 30, 2011. And I am terrified!
My entire life, I have hated running until I got fat after college/marriage/job where I traveled a lot and had my food paid for on the road. I joined a gym here in town last February and have been pretty dedicated to working out at least 3 times a week.
I have finally pushed myself to step it and do something that, until now, I had no desire to do - run a half marathon.
And so it begins. I am up to 3.5/4 miles already so I'm pretty sure that in the next 15 weeks, I can up that to at least 11 miles - and then the remaining 2.1 miles will just come "easy" - or so I'm told.
Here is my weekly plan:
Monday: run (right now, it's 4 miles - this will increase)
Tuesday: spin class and then weight train (to build endurance)
Wednesday: run (4 miles - this will increase)
Thursday: spin class and then weight train (to build endurance)
Friday: 4 miles (will increase)
Saturday: 4 miles (this will increase and will turn in to my "long" run of the week)
Wow. I feel even crazier than I think I am when I see that typed out. I don't want big bulkly arms but in everything I've read, the best way to build endurance is to weight train. I really need to work on my core and my quads. I have a really bad left knee so my quads need to be ready to go!
I'm also going to try to eat A LOT healthier so that I can be light and fast :)
How do I get through these workouts? Music, of course. I have a mix on my iPod that does a really good job of keeping me motivated (click to enlarge)!
P!nk has a dirty mouth but she does get me motivated!
I will keep you posted on my progress! If you want to run with me, let me know!
